The Crazy Cat Lady

As a young person, I often wonder what the future holds for myself and my friends. Typically, these musings relegate themselves to the realm of success: “who will be the first to make $1 million?” “Who will be a politician?” “Who will contribute something great to culture?” But, I was thinking this weekend that not all of my friends will be great successes. Most will probably lead good, ordinary lives that are relatively indistinguishable from any other middle class Americans’. One or two might even lead very bad lives. When I say “bad lives,” I don’t mean that my friends will be crack addicts or prostitutes, I just mean that they’ll live lives that I’m not interested in leading at all. I wondered, particularly, if any of my friends would grow up to be a crazy cat lady. It seems like there’s always some person in the news that gets arrested for housing 80 cats in their one bedroom apartment and I’m curious to see if anyone I know will develop into that. It could happen.
